I’m Damian – one of the two Disney Addicts who will mainly be writing this blog – the other… well… I’ll let him introduce himself.
As this blog indicates… I like Disney. By ‘I like Disney’, I grew up in the Disney Renaissance, and remember seeing The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas and Hunchback at the cinema. I was that (annoying) child who would sit through Disney movies at home or at the cinema, talking and singing through the whole thing!
I remember as a little boy watching Snow White and the Seven Dwarves on VHS, and being terrified of the evil queen’s transformation from beauty to hag, but that type of terrified where you want to rewind and watch it all again. I remember being a mid-twenties guy getting home from work, having had a really rough week, putting Enchanted on (a movie I was initially really resistant to – despite Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz writing the score!), crying through parts of it, and still feeling the magic that Disney movies give me.
I remember watching the EuroDisney (as it was called then!) Park Opening Ceremony on TV and seeing clips of all of the Disney Movies I loved, and Angela Lansbury singing the title number to Beauty and the Beast… going there in 1992 when all the lands weren’t even open. I went to Walt Disney World with my Dad and Step-Mum in 1997, and again with my Partner in 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2013.
Seeing Cinderella’s Castle for the first time each trip, riding Tower of Terror or Rockin’ Rollercoaster, watching IllumiNations, Fantasmic or Wishes never ceases to make me feel like a child again. For someone who is as sharp-tongued and cynical as I am… leaving me speechless or having a moment where there isn’t a sarcastic comment is a rare occurence.
I’ve been reading Disney Blogs for a long time, certain YouTube Channels are almost part of my daily viewing, and if I’m not at Disney World, I’m planning my next holiday there – and figured that it was about time I had somewhere to jot my own inane ramblings. No doubt there’ll be more random posts to come, but it was really hard finding something to write, so I figured I’d just ‘break the seal’, get something down, and go from there!
Until next time…!
